Swine flu has hit the UK very bad, the disease which started in Mexico has now made its ways throughout the world. Summer is nearly finished for the UK and as soon as the cold months hit, it could spread even faster then before. Already, over the past week, almost one hundred thousand people have literally become infected.
As we all know most schools are currently on summer holiday leave, a lot of families will now be taking a holiday for the summer, which could effectively see a high volume of people come back with the virus. Schools usually reopen in September, but there is a huge amount of worry that they will in fact be forced to shut, as fears grow that the pandemic could become out of control.
All of this is one of the reasons that the government and the BBC are getting ready to broadcast scheduled education programmes for kids so that they can continue to study at home. However, a BBC spokeswoman said the broadcaster has a 'strong role' to play in providing information and health advice during the pandemic.
The spokeswoman said that in the event of school closures, the BBC website would have the 'most important' role for school children.
Miss Keates added: 'My understanding is that the Government is trying to get everyone to co-operate and work together. No discussion with us has implied in any way that the Government is contemplating forcing anyone to participate.'
We already know that by the time Christmas time comes millions of people throughout the UK could be infected and even more people especially the old and people with underlying health conditions may find themselves in hospital.
Although the government have assured people that there is plenty of Tamiflu and there will be a vaccination coming through people are still afraid that there just will not be enough to accommodate everyone.
The growing fear is also what could effectively happen if the virus mutates or learns to become resistant to Tamiflu. If swine flu mutates, it could become much more aggressive and spread a lot faster. It could also end up being much more fatal and without any treatment in place, millions if not billions of people could possibly get seriously ill.
Hopefully the virus will just pass by as normal seasonal flu as the world would become a very scary place if we are all cautioned to stay in our homes.
