Many people have found themselves asking this very question after the onset of its painful symptoms.
There is a very simple answer to this question, but the symptoms and causes of this disorder have left people with little answers. Fibromyalgia is a condition that leads to severe pain to the muscle tissue within the body.
The symptoms are very much the same as arthritis, but the results are very much different. There is a lot of pain and inflammation associated with Fibromyalgia that is very similar to that of arthritic conditions, but it will not cause the organ damage that other disorders will cause.
The cause of this condition remains a mystery for now, although there is currently a lot of research that is being done to figure it out. One thing that is known would be that Fibromyalgia and decrease in serotonin run along with each other.
For each person that has this disorder the symptoms are different. One thing that is constant would be that there is pain, stiffness of muscles, and tenderness. Another common issue that people seem to have is sleep disturbances. This could be caused by pain that is keeping them up or it could be a result of a problem in having the deep REM sleep that they need to feel rested.
Treating Fibromyalgia is different for each person and will depend greatly on types of symptoms that they are currently experiencing. Most doctors will use a testing method of finding the right ways to help with symptoms. They may have you try different things until you find the one that works best.
Eliminating stress: By simply practicing techniques that will reduce stress you will greatly reduce the symptoms that cause you pain. Stress has the ability of leaving our bodies vulnerable to illness.
Exercise regularly: It is a proven fact that exercise will help to strengthen the muscles in your body. Since the pain of Fibromyalgia is focused on muscles then exercising them will help build a line of defense against this painful condition.
Medications: There are many different medications that your doctor can prescribe in order to decrease and treat your symptoms. Some physicians will use such treatments as antidepressants which will increase serotonin levels in the brain, while other doctors choose to use pain therapy to treat the symptoms. Another choice for relieving the pain is muscle relaxers. As far as over the counter medications go ibuprofen or other anti inflammatory drugs can be taken to reduce symptoms and pain.
A newer form of therapy involves analgesic injections containing pain medication. These drugs are usually injected directly into the muscles.
Chiropractors: Regular visits to your local chiropractic clinic will help provide relief to your pain and suffering. They have several therapies and techniques that could be beneficial to your musculature.
Research is currently being done to help solve the mysteries that surround the causes of this disorder. Many new forms of therapy are being tested at this moment.
What is Fibromyalgia? It is a disorder that causes pain and inflammation in the muscles. However, with proper diagnosis this condition can be effectively treated and the symptoms virtually eliminated.
