What is fibromyalgia? This is a common question of anyone who has been diagnosed with this painful disorder.

The answer is simple yet the ongoing symptoms can be quite complicated to diagnose as they mimic those of many other common disorders. Fibromyalgia is a condition that causes ongoing pain to the muscles of the body. It is similar to several arthritic conditions, but a completely different disorder just the same.

Although this condition can cause pain, inflammation, and discomfort it will not cause internal organ damage as do other arthritic conditions.

There is no known cause for this disorder, but researchers have found that it is often accompanied by increased levels of nerve chemicals in the brain.

The symptoms of this devastating disorder can vary from each person, but can include such things as pain, stiffness, and feelings of muscle tenderness. Most people who have this condition complain of problems getting to sleep or complete lack of sleep which leaves them feeling tired and weak most of the time.

There are many different ways to treat Fibromyalgia since there are such a wide variety of symptoms plaguing sufferers of this debilitating disorder. To get relief most people the only thing you can do is test each method of treatment until finding the one that best suits you. Some of them can only be described by a doctor while other can be done on your own.

Reducing stress: When our bodies are stressed they tend to be more prone to illness. By reducing stress you can not only overcome what is currently plaguing, but also help in decreasing recurrent pain.

Exercising: Regular exercise will help to decrease the pain and symptoms that you may be experiencing. It is done by increased movement and strengthening of your muscles.

Medicines: There are over the counter pills that can be taken such as Ibuprofen or Naproxen Sodium. There are also many prescribed medications that have been found to greatly reduce the symptoms of this disorder. Some physicians have been prescribing pills that relax the muscles while others have focused more on those medications such as antidepressants that will replenish the serotonin in the brain.

There are some new studies that have been done indicating that local analgesics or cortisones injected into the muscles can provide some relief of painful symptoms.

Chiropractic care: Seeing a chiropractor on a regular basis is a safe and effective way of decreasing the painful symptoms of Fibromyalgia. They can offer you therapy which will align your body and heat therapy to the muscles that are causing you pain. This approach is not only non invasive, but still quite helpful.

There are many studies currently being done to find out the facts about what might cause Fibromyalgia. There are also many new treatments being tested.

What is Fibromyalgia? A painful disorder that causes thousands of people pain that can be controlled effectively, but can't be eliminated. With plenty of research and lots of hope, one day sufferers of this painful disorder will one day be symptoms free.
