Overeating, over consumption of foods, and overindulgence in foods. These concepts have different wordings but if we look into it all, we can see that they are all pretty much the same. The reason why most diet programs fail is due to overeating. On one hand, we may say that overeating only sets in when a person becomes too deprived of the foods that his or her body has grown used to and as a result, the body retaliates by indulging in food cravings. Although this is a valid reason in itself, there is actually another reason behind overeating.
When we undergo dieting, we also cut down on many food choices. As a result, we develop a sense of adaptation to the foods that we have restricted ourselves into. But then again, when we reach a certain point where we would have to encounter the foods that we used to love so much, our appetites react to it in such a way that makes us want to overeat. This is what we call trigger foods.
Trigger foods aren't necessarily a type of food group. Trigger foods are anything that when consumed by an individual invariably brings out his or her appetite. The thing that we should learn first is to recognize what our trigger foods. If we don't know what our trigger foods are, then we would have a difficult time to ward off against these foods which seemingly enhances our appetites.
Once the particular type of trigger food for a certain individual is realized, he or she must do dire efforts to stay away from it. This should be done for a particular cycle until such tie that the trigger food no longer has the effect of such an enhanced appetite.
Once the trigger food is realized and the efforts to ward off against it effects are already through, the thing that the dieter must do is to find a particular type of diet regimen that would best work for him or for her. At this point, it would already be necessary to make gradual yet drastic lifestyle choices so as to teach the system to adapt to a healthier lifestyle. Lastly, you should go about your way to weight loss pursuits while harnessing a different mindset about your particular addiction to food.
Addressing your thoughts about overeating must therefore become a major part of your weight loss plan. This means you need to determine the reasons why you overeat. Of course the simple answer would be to say that you are hungry, but it is more than that. Determining what your reasons are for overeating will give you behaviors to focus on, behaviors, in which, you can learn to change. This is the first and the most practical way to lose weight.
