People in Philadelphia are finding that Invisalign aligners are more convenient and versatile and less noticeable than traditional wire and bracket braces. There are many people who currently have a need for braces that could benefit from the invisible straightening system for teeth, and although the aligners are not right for everyone, they are suitable for a large majority. There are some advantages and also some disadvantages to using Invisalign, and here are a few from both categories.

First of all, the most obvious advantage is that the aligners are totally transparent so they are far less noticeable than traditional metal straightening systems. This makes Invisalign especially popular with adults since metal braces are usually seen in children and adolescents. Many people have attested to the fact that the aligners are also far more comfortable to wear than their metal counterparts. Invisalign aligners are completely removable, too, so people can take them out to eat and brush their teeth, which is a large source of frustration for many wearers of traditional straighteners.

Metal braces are known to cause the roots of peoples teeth to actually shorten in length, and they can also cause tooth decay and demineralization in half of patients who wear them simply because they cannot be removed for eating or brushing. They also make accurate x rays of the mouth difficult to take. Every other week patients change their aligners with Invisalign, and they also give less force and less pain over time than the fixed appliances do. The traditional metal fixtures are adjusted about every six weeks and have more moving force to them, which also can mean more discomfort.

There are some disadvantages to using Invisalign. The fact that the aligners can and should be removed at times means that they are not constantly correcting the teeth. The success of this clear system largely depends on a patients habits and also on their personal commitment. The aligners should be worn 20 22 hours per day and should be removed only when they are eating, drinking, and brushing their teeth. Another disadvantage is that Invisalign is more expensive than the traditional wire and bracket braces, which may prevent many potential candidates from being able to afford the aligners.

Some users have complained about the fact that they must remove the aligners for eating, and they and their teeth have to be cleaned before putting them back into their mouths. This can become time consuming for some users, and even when out on a dinner date or during other activities, it may prove to be difficult to brush their teeth and clean their aligners right after they eat sometimes.

Overall, the majority of people are very happy with their choice in choosing the Invisalign system over the traditional wire and brackets for many reasons, so if you are interested in learning more, be sure to contact your Philadelphia dentists office.
