It is common knowledge: Millions of people all across America and all around the world are addicted to tobacco cigarettes. While some smokers can be labeled as casual or social smokers who don't smoke more than just a few cigarettes in a week's time, there are others who go through several packs a week. Some even smoke a pack per day.

Anyone who smokes tobacco cigarettes puts themselves at a higher risk of developing illness and disease. The 4000+ chemicals found in cigarette smoke is definitely not good for inhaling, yet people still indulge in these cigarettes because it is addicting. Some of the symptoms you would feel by smoking cigarettes are headaches, dizziness, shortness of breath, or wheezing. In the long run, however, those symptoms will pale in comparison with more life-threatening side effects, such as heart disease, cancer of the lungs and other organs, and stroke.

With the knowledge that these debilitating diseases are just a heartbeat away if one continues to smoke cigarettes, it is no wonder that people are trying to stop their addiction to these deadly things. Try as they might, however, a huge percentage of people are not able to stop their psychological and physical addiction to cigarettes and the nicotine found in it.

There are many ways one can quit smoking, and all of those ways take an enormous amount of will power, strength, and self control. One such way is to quit "cold turkey", which means to stop smoking all at once. The percentage of people who do this successfully is very low but it can be done.

There are nicotine patches and inhalers that give you the nicotine that your body is craving. The percentage of people who have quit as a result of these cessation devices is also low, and experts believe it is because it only targets the physical need for nicotine and not the psychological addiction to cigarettes, which is usually the act of engaging in the behavior. The act of lighting up a cigarette and taking puffs on it is also addicting.

The last method is through a device called the e-cigarette. This device looks, acts, and feels like a tobacco cigarette but is powered up with a battery. The nicotine is delivered through the vapor that is produced when the heating element, or the atomizer, burns up the liquid nicotine solution. There are several nicotine strengths to choose from, which is helpful at different stages of the quitting process.

Although the e-cigarette is not marketed as a cessation device and the FDA has not approved it to be so, the testimonials from people are overwhelming. The majority of people who have used e-cigarettes do not smoke tobacco cigarettes again because the device targets both the psychological and physical need associated with tobacco cigarette smoking. And some users have reported that they are using their e-cigarettes less and less.
