There is a fairly new product available on the market right now that you might or might not have heard about yet. If you are a smoker who has been looking for a way to stop smoking, then you most likely have already heard about it. But if you are not into smoking at all, then chances are you don't know about it unless you've seen the product at the mall or other shopping center.
This fairly new product I'm referring to is the e-cigarette as users like to call them. The e-cigarette sounds like something from cyber space, doesn't it? Kind of similar to "e-mail" or "e-book". Well, the "e" in those words means the same thing with this device: electronic or electric. The e-cigarette is powered up with a battery. Although it may look like and mimic the tobacco cigarette, that's about as far as the similarities go.
The e-cigarette utilizes an atomizer, or heating element, that heats up the liquid nicotine solution stored in a cartridge in the mouthpiece. When the atomizer heats this solution up, it turns it into a vapor. The solution contains different levels of nicotine or no nicotine at all - user's choice. Since the vapor contains nicotine, it gives users the feel of smoking a cigarette but without all of the harmful chemicals.
So what makes this product so revolutionary that it literally skyrocketed to fame overnight? Well, it's simple. It's not because it looks snazzy, although that's a plus. It's because of the obvious: it is simply a safer, healthier and better choice when you compare it to the tobacco cigarette. Now, the e-cigarette is marketed to those who are already smokers and who are seeking an alternative way to enjoy their "smoke" without sacrificing too much of their health for their habit.
Compare the two: the tobacco cigarette's smoke contains cancer-causing agents, toxins, and unheard of levels of other chemicals that simply cannot be good for your body. The e-cigarette, on the other hand, contains but a few ingredients, and some cartridges that the FDA conducted tests on contained a certain compound found in antifreeze, which is also present in tobacco cigarettes at a higher concentration level, mind you.
Which one is the better choice of the two?
The e-cigarette's popularity is due in part by its simple ingenuity. It seems like a simple contraction, but it does its job very well. A large percentage of smokers who have been using the e-cigarette have not smoked a single tobacco cigarette since, and they report better health conditions. For smokers who have been seeking a way to quit for a very long time, this device is a godsend, and it brings people new hope of a smoke-free future.
Or, there are those people who love to smoke but feel guilty about supporting a business that thrives on addiction. This is their way, in a way, of "sticking it to the man".
