Asthma is a respiratory disorder characterized by thick mucous, shortness of breath, wheezing cough, especially on the exhalation, and or inflammation and spasm of the bronchi. The general cause is thick mucous in the lungs, bronchi, alveoli (where gas exchange occurs), which tends to obstruct, clog the bronchi, alveoli, shortening and wheezing the breath. Thick mucous is generally cause by excess cold, external (winter, air conditioning) and internal (cold, damp diet).

The lungs (includes throat, nose, sinuses and throat) are naturally moist. Moisture, water facilitates the exchange of gases between lungs (bronchi, alveoli), blood (65% water) and the environment. Air, oxygen (vital nutrient, water-soluble) is taken in and carbon dioxide (gaseous waste product, water-soluble) let out. Too much or too little moisture tends to weaken the lungs, breath, and gas exchange.

Too much moisture (water, mucous and or phlegm) tends to clog the lungs: bronchi, alveoli shortening and distorting the breath, causing wheezing, sneezing and snoring. Cold temperatures, winter, A/C, living in cold damp basement and or internal cold (cold, damp diet) tends to cool and moisten the lungs with excess fluids.

The body is just like the earth. It reacts to changes in temperature, energy. In nature, cold, winter temperatures harden and condense water in air into rain, ice and snow. In the body, cold temperatures thicken, condense fluids in the lungs, sinuses, throat, bronchi (passages), alveoli (where air and blood mix) into mucous and phlegm (thick mucous), obstructing, shortening and or wheezing the breath in addition to causing sleep apnea and or sinus infection.

The lungs are located above the digestive organs. The digestive system, organs heat the body just like a car engine heats a car. Two or three meals per day stimulates digestion for several hours at a time producing excess heat, energy that naturally rises up into the lungs, warming, drying and dissipating fluids.

Chronic, weak digestion produces less energy, heat, which in turn causes body temperature to drop, increasing coldness and subsequent condensation, dampness, to occur not only in the lungs, nose, throat, but also in the sexual organs (vaginal discharge, yeast infections). Poor diet, drugs, chronic illness, etc. tend to weaken digestion.

Long-term low protein and low fat diets (milk, yogurt, soft cheeses, beans, nuts and seeds) weaken digestion. Too many cold damp foods, fluids (milk, yogurt, ice cream, salads, tropical fruits, juices, smoothies, shakes, cold drinks sodas, etc.) in the extreme, dilute, cool and weaken digestion, acid and enzymes, fire, body heat.

Excess cold, damp tends to attack women (menstruation, tendency to eat low protein, low fat and high carbohydrate diets), children (undeveloped) and or those living in cold, damp climates. The lacto vegetarian and vegan diets tend to be cold, damp unless heated, fortified (more protein, fat, cooked foods, spices, etc.).

The hotter middle diet, meal plan is recommended. Protein, fat, cooked foods, soups, stews, etc. increase digestion, heat and energy. Spices (cumin, coriander, fennel, ginger, cayenne, turmeric, etc.) stimulate digestion while drying dampness (mucous, phlegm, cysts).
