For women, fat tends to accumulate on the hips, thighs and buttocks and for some, more than others, this problem can be frustrating. Since this is the area they are prone to carry fat, it is the most difficult to lose. Women who are fit, who eat healthy, exercise daily and have normal metabolisms, still have fat in those areas. Some have chosen liposuction to finally rid themselves of the stubborn fat, but that surgery can be drastic for small areas of fat. The pain, bruising and scarring almost counters the aesthetic affect they are looking for.
With lasers being used now in most surgeries, it makes sense that laser liposuction has grown in popularity. It has become even more popular with fit women who just cannot get certain areas of fat to move. It contours the body and works best on those only looking to lose 10 pounds in certain areas. The skin is tightened from during surgery, making it fit better on the muscle beneath it after the fat is removed. There is no real downtime which is appealing to active women with busy schedules.
The surgery is performed with a local anesthetic versus general anesthesia. A tiny cannula, similar to a hollowed out needle that contains a laser, is inserted under the skin. The laser liquidizes the fat by melting it and the cannula then suctions it out. The tiny incision points do not require stitches, which reduces scarring to being almost invisible. Recovery time is about 48 hours and minus pain, blood and scarring. Patients can leave the hospital 3 hours after surgery. A compression garment is worn for the three consecutive days following surgery and in the case of some body parts, the garment is usually needed to be worn for 8 hours a day over the next two weeks. Pain medication is typically not necessary, but if pain does occur, over the counter remedies will easily manage it.
The surgery permanently removes fat. Adults we do not grow more fat cells, we only have a set number. After those fat cells are removed, they will not grow back. But fat cells still exist in other areas so a healthy lifestyle is still necessary. Eating a healthy diet, exercising and taking care of your health is essential if you do not want weight gain elsewhere. Fat removal surgery is not something to be taken lightly. It is a last resort when all else fails in fat reduction.
