If you have decided to have fat reduction surgery and have chosen laser liposuction, your next decision is which body parts to have it on. While this may seem like an easy decision, it may not be. Since this type of surgery works best on areas with only 10 or more pounds to lose, you need to assess your body and your shape to see what will work best for you. Consult with a doctor to see if you are a good candidate.
If you are under sixty years old, in good health, with 10 pounds or less of body fat in some ears and are someone who exercises regularly and eats a healthy, balanced diet, then a doctor would most likely give you the go ahead. The procedure is an out patient procedure done with local anesthesia. The risks are very low due to the not having to put you under and because the incisions are so small. There is little to no blood loss, again cutting down the surgery risk.
You will have a small cannula inserted under your skin after the area is numbed. The numbing agent contains lidocaine which restricts blood vessels making the procedure bloodless in most cases. The cannula is as small as a needle and is hollowed out. Attached is a laser that melts the fat while the cannula suctions it out. It takes generally just one hour per body part and the sutures do not require stitches, reducing scarring to the point that it is barely visible within two weeks. The procedure is gentle, producing no bruising.
Most people do a combination of body parts and tend to do hips, buttocks and thighs during one surgery, maybe adding the abdomen. Others may go for more upper body work on bra bulge, back of the arms and neck. And others may do the face by reducing fat in the chin and neck area. It depends on the body type and the person and which areas are the most bothersome. The idea is balance.
Recovery is generally just two days of light to moderate activity while wearing a compression garment that is concealable. You may return to work the next day. The garment must be worn for three straight days through the night and sometimes for up to two weeks for just eight hours per day. A doctor can give you a good idea on what would work best for you and how to get the best result for your body type.
