Deciding to have any type of surgery done is a personal decision. For plastic surgery patients it is even more so. Since the surgery is elective, many people fear that other people will think they are vain. Nowadays it is much more acceptable, with many celebrities flaunting their surgeries, but for the common person, it can still be embarrassing. The most common elective surgeries are fat reduction and with the laser being used, it is becoming more common.
People with stubborn fat to lose are considering laser liposuction to remove pockets of fat that are ten pounds of under. The reason this surgery is popular is that there really isn't any, or very little, visible scarring. The procedure uses a tiny cannula about the size of a piece of spaghetti, uncooked. It has a laser attached and is inserted under the skin. Fat is melted to liquid form and suction out gently. This leaves no bruising or swelling. For those wishing to be discreet, this is a plus.
The surgery takes about an hour for each body part and the patient is free to go after about three hours. Most times, the surgery is preformed in a doctor's office and local anesthesia is used reducing complications and risk. The patient is asked to participate in light to moderate activity for two days while wearing a compression garment for three days and nights. The compression garment prevents swelling and for those who want to keep their surgery quiet, it is best advised to wear this garment. The garment is easily concealed under clothing and resembles either bike shorts or an ace bandage, depending on body part.
Patients can go back to work the next day as their is either no pain or just some mild discomfort. Over the counter medication can easily manage any discomfort there may be. A person can expect to lose up to 3 sizes during one surgery and a couple of sizes. It is recommended for healthy individuals who diet and exercise but cannot seem to lose certain areas of fat. For those who need to lose more weight other alternative such as traditional liposuction may be recommended. Those over 60 years old may experience sagging skin post liposuction and may require more surgery for skin removal.
Deciding which type of surgery is best for you is personal. Make sure to read up on your surgery and check up on your physician to make sure you make the best decision and get the best care.
