Ayurvedic concept is a 5000 year old medical system that India relies heavily on. The word Ayurveda combines two Sanskrit words: ayur meaning life and veda meaning science. Ayurveda is defined as "The Science of Life". This system balances and integrates mind, body and spirit which means that it is "holistic".

Ayurveda views every person as different with unique life situations, mind/body concepts. These are considered in determining which approach to use in healing. Whether it is natural healing approaches or for daily living. This view is equal to modern medicine which views persons with unique DNA.

Therefore, our form of healing or health prescription must be especially or unique to us. This means that you need to eat certain foods that are good, healthy and beneficial for your own unique body type. Your exercise regimen must be personally suitable as well.

Your uniqueness determines a lot about you, your personality and your body. Understanding this will help you to know how to heal yourself in order to be totally healthy.

According to Ayurvedic concepts everyone has five basic elements (Panchamahabhutas) which are space, fire, water, air, and earth. These elements combine with each other to produce three Ayurveda body types which are called Ayurveda Doshas. Dosha's are bio-physical forces within the human body. Vata is air and space, Pitta is fire and water, and Kapha is water and earth. Combine these Ayurveda body types and they are known as Tridosha which governs not only the physiological but also the psychological and biological aspects of the mind, body, and spirit. These forces also effect how an individual responds to everything around them.

There are three Doshas that everyone is made up of but it is the dominance of any one, two, or three that makes up a person's mind--set. This is known as your constitution or Prakriti. Your Dosha type is believed to be destined at the moment of conception. Dominance of the three Doshas shift with age, time of day or night, season, etc. Ayurveda addresses mind and body dualism and uses a system which combines Yoga, massage, what we eat, herbal remedies, behavior lifestyle to stimulate positive health and emotions.

Now I know that you have a better understanding of the Ayurvedic concepts, you may want to learn more about your body type and how you can live a life full of health, happiness, and beauty with Ayurveda.
