Being overweight can wreak havoc on one's self esteem. Depending on the number of pounds overweight you are, you may be suffering from ridicule or just your own self loathing. Some people are overweight since childhood, while others gain weight as they age. Depending on your situation, there are certain actions you can take to reduce fat on your body for the sake of your health and your self esteem.
There are options available from diet and exercise to surgery to help you rid yourself of excess fat. Some surgeries are better for some than others. If you have been overweight since childhood and just can't lose that weight, surgery could be an option. You must take into consideration excess skin following any fat reduction surgery if you are 100 or more pounds overweight. Gastric bypass surgery is an option that can require additional surgery to remove the saggy, loose skin that follows. A tummy tuck requires just one surgery, which removes the area of fat and skin at once, but there are scars to contend with. Either one will help you to regain your self confidence and get healthy.
For those with 50 or less pounds to lose, with no more than 10 pounds in certain areas, laser liposuction could be an option. If you are under sixty years old, are in good shape besides the excess poundage and diet and exercise regularly, then you could be a good candidate. The procedure is relatively safe, requires no general anesthesia and can be done in one hour in an out patient settnig.
The procedure uses a laser attached to a tiny, hollowed out cannula no bigger than a piece of uncooked spaghetti. It is inserted under the skin and the laser heats the fat creating a liquid. The cannula then suctions out the fat and while the laser tightens the skin. This works well in creating a smooth, sleek area without sagging skin. There is little to no bruising, swelling or scarring and the surgery is virtually bloodless. While this can be a good choice, it still surgery and does carry risk, although very little. Decisions to have surgery should be considered very carefully.
This type of surgery requires little to no down time and no pain. If discomfort is experience, it is nothing that an over the counter pain reliever cannot handle. But surgery should be cused only as a last option and after you have a consultation with a certified physician. The physician can determine what is best for you and your body type as well as what would work with your current health condition.
