In these times of successive worldwide epidemics brought about by new and more dangerous strains of viruses, it seems like nobody is safe anymore. One can just suddenly be stricken with a strange disease which has not even been given a name much less a cure for. We have seen it happening with SARS, Ebola virus and lately the AH1N1 virus. With a health crisis of this proportion, caring for one's immune system should be something everyone should be concerned about.

Our immune system is made up of a complex network of cells, structures and organs that all work together to combat harmful bacteria, viruses, toxins, and parasites that are always trying to attack our bodies. It is somewhat like an army tasked with the important responsibility of being constantly on the alert for possible attack from invaders. Our immune system protects us from anything that may harm our health.

Every cell in our bodies has a distinguishing mark. When a cell moves about without this marker, or a foreign molecule is attached to the cell, the immune system identifies it as foreign and destroys it.

Without an immune system, we would be vulnerable to all the destructive elements in our environment. We would not be able to recover from the flu or even a minor cold. The very first illness that hits us would mean death. This is the reason why it is extremely important to make sure that our immune system is always in perfect condition because good health begins there.

At this point you're probably wondering why, in spite of having an immune system in place, do we still get sick? When important nutrients and antioxidants are lacking in our regular diet, we begin to suffer from immunodeficiency.

The most basic step to staying healthy is have a fully functional and strong immune system. Below are some tips to help you take better care of it:

1. Make sure to eat a healthy diet. Include foods that are rich in antioxidants. Drink a lot of water.
2. Take quality nutritional supplements
3. Find a healthy way to release your stress (meditation, yoga, walking, etc.)
4. Engage in moderate exercise regularly (3 or 4 times a week)
5. Stop smoking and excessive alcohol consumption

People often realize the truth of the saying, "Health is wealth" when they are already helplessly downed by an illness. Aside from taking care of your body on the outside, you should also pay attention to what is inside. Your immune system is bound to fail if you don't take the effort to provide it with preventive care. Keep your pH balance in check by taking the most potent antioxidants. They ensure that your immunity is in excellent condition and performing at its optimum level.
