If you wear contact lenses on a daily basis, one thing that many people forget to focus on is having good hygiene while wearing them. These types of lenses come into close contact with the eye and can bring clear vision or a mixture of dirt, germs and irritation if not properly tended to.

Many people now wear disposable contact lenses that come from their optometrist or in the mail for their ease of use and convenience. Though there is not the responsibility to clean them everyday that there is with more permanent lenses, there is still the need to have proper hygiene while wearing them. When you first receive them, read the instructions on the box or those provided inside. Follow these as to the length of time to wear them and how to use them correctly. Wearing disposable lenses longer than prescribed in the instructions can lead to irritation and lack of cleanliness. Germs can build up on the lens, making it possible to contract diseases or other unpleasant infections that result from misuse. If you have questions, make sure to ask your optometrist for clarification.

With regular contact lenses, hygiene is of utmost importance. Again, as with the disposable kind, read all instructions from the manufacturer and your doctor, being sure to ask any questions you may have. Get all of the necessary cleaning fluids, and be sure to clean them thoroughly and daily according to the instructions. Leaving them in overnight or for days at a time can lead to buildup of dirt and germs, which again can lead to infection.

Any buildup of dirt or particles can also scratch the lens, or cause irritation in the eye. Lenses also dry out your eyes if you leave them in too long, which can lead to redness and immense aggravation. Keep eye drops on hand in order to moisturize your eye if necessary. If you drop your lens while out and about, carry a spare pair with you or a small case with the cleaning fluid. Do not reinsert it into your eye until it has been cleaned. The lens could have picked up particles or germs from the ground that you do not want in your eye.

One of the greatest risks associated to wearing contact lenses is Acanthamoeba Keratitis an infection of the cornea which can cause blindness. Find out more about this dangerous condition by clicking the link.

Having proper hygiene with your contact lenses is a crucial aspect of responsible wearing. They are of great convenience over wearing glasses, but do require a small amount of work on your part to avoid eye issues with disease and irritation. If taken care of properly, you will see free and clear and your eyes will be healthier for years to come.
Author Resource:- Buying contact lenses online is for many a more affordable solution than the average high street optician. Lower costs allow online suppliers of contact lenses to offer lower prices than many high street retailers.
