Weight loss, or the need to lose weight is something that people all over the globe deal with on an everyday basis. Weight loss is big business. It is, in fact, a billion dollar business, responsible for countless drugs, natural remedies, exercise plans, eating plans and so many more products that would have you believe weight loss should be and can be easy for anyone to accomplish.
Anyone who has tried any of these so called 'weight loss' miracles knows all to well that they don't work. There is no pill, no one single food, no single exercise regimen or one single piece of equipment that will help the weight melt from your body. So, what does work? Hard work. Hard, honest, real diet and exercise. Eating less calories that what you are able to burn off in a given day. That's it - no miracle cure for weight loss.
However, that doesn't mean that there isn't anything that can be done from a purely mindset stand point. The human mind is a very powerful tool, it can either help or hinder in a weight loss journey. If all of those so called 'guaranteed to lose weight' products don't work, how can the mind?
The most important part of losing weight is being able to imagine a thinner you. If there is a clear image of the new you firmly planted in your brain, you are more likely to actually reach and get that new, slimmer body. Positive thinking goes a long way in the weight loss battle.
Have goals set for yourself. Make them small and attainable, more importantly, write them down. Keep the goals visible; post them in the bathroom next to the mirror, on the refrigerator door, or perhaps in the visor of the car - where ever you will see them on a very regular basis. Writing down these goals will help to keep them in the front of your mind.
Figure out what your food liabilities are and a way to avoid them. For example, if ice cream is your downfall, compromise with frozen whipped cream. If soda is something you think you can't live without, try replacing it with sparkling water or juice. The point here is to give yourself options that are close to what is being craved, but is lower in calories. This way you can help to satisfy your urges without sabotaging your weight loss goals.
Be sure to circle yourself with supportive people, find people who either share the same goals as you or people who are 100% behind you and your desire to loss weight. Keep in mind that just because people are friends or family doesn't necessarily mean that they are the best people for you to be around when trying to lose weight.
Perhaps the most important step to thinking yourself thin is to have a clear notion as to exactly why you want to lose weight. If you are trying to lose weight because that is what society expects, your significant other, or anyone other than yourself, you will fail. Weight loss is very personal and needs to be your choice.
Of course proper diet and a sensible exercise plan both play very important roles in the weight loss process, but don't underestimate the power of positive thinking.
