It is recommended by Governments across the Western World that everyone eats 5 servings of fruit and vegetables each day. This is easily achievable as the daily amount roughly equates to between 3 - 5 cups of mixed fruits and vegetables.

Vegetables and fruit also represent the least expensive but often most nutrient rich and healthy foods on our Supermarket Shelves. We are so fortunate that there is such abundance and variety of these foods, they are available in every conceivable shape, colour, size and texture. If you are prepared to be a little adventurous and sample some of the many exotic vegetables and fruit available you can provide a variety and spice to your diet which will ensure that you never get bored.

Try to mix your colours i.e. red, green, yellow and orange peppers when char grilled will provide not only balance and added nutriton to the lean meat, poultry, fish or the vegetarian option of beans and pulses, which provides the protein content of your meal but they will also look so appetising on your plate.

Vegetables which provide added support to the healthy function of the liver and colon are from the "green" family especially broccoli, kale, spinach and brussel sprouts. Green Beans, broad beans and carrots are terrific added to salads. To incorporate root vegetables within your diet try brushing with olive oil and then roasting or char grilling pumpkin, squash and sweet potato together with some red onion a marvellous combination!

Although we always recommend you take a good quality multi vitamin every day this is only in addition to your daily consumption of fruit and vegetables to ensure you receive all the numerous vitamins and nutrients our bodies need to maintain optimum health and vitality.

While you are undertaking a weight loss regime we suggest you benefit from a group of water based vegetables which can be classed as "free". Vegetables such as celery, cucumber, watercress and lettuce can be consumed freely to bulk out your meals. If you make a delicious soup of celery with some onion and organic vegetable stock this can provide a useful stand by to eat whenever hunger strikes.
