Did you know that the majority of the US is considered overweight? There are more and more people joining those ranks every year. It's no mystery how this phenomenon came about - the food industry in America is severely corrupted. Americans are being fed foods designed to make them fat, not by force but by heavy deceptive marketing.

Why would anyone eat foods that are known to make them fat and a danger to their health? The marketing put out by the food industry is just that good and that convincing. Not only that but the vast public is not taught anything about nutrition and health beyond prescription drugs and to believe whatever doctors tell them.

It's pretty well-known that it's unhealthy and dangerous to have excess body fat but it's even more dangerous to have that excess body fat in your abdominal area. This absolutely increases the chances of having other diseases caused by your lifestyle and nutrition (or lack of nutrition). Many of those diseases are very well-known: diabetes, cardiovascular disease and strokes.

There are two types of fat in your abdominal area: subcutaneous and visceral fat. Basically, the subcutaneous fat is on top of your ab muscles but visceral fat surrounds your internal organs. So which one is the bad one to have excess of? You guessed it: visceral. If you have excess visceral fat in your abdominal area, you have a higher chance of developing diseases: diabetes, cardiovascular disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, sleep apnea, or different types of cancer.

This is why it is absolutely crucial to maintain a healthy body weight and make sure to absolutely minimize body fat, especially in your midsection. A bonus to the health aspect is just that you'll look and feel better! You'll feel sexier and look fantastic with visible sexy abs.

So let's cut to the chase and go beyond all those infomercials that you see promising everything except what you're looking for - a real solution that will work! For starters, don't believe anyone who tells you that you'll have sexy abs within a short amount of time. There is no such thing as a miracle pill or a quick fix. No bogus supplement pill or gimmick will do the trick because there is no trick to be done. Also all of those weird ab machines are a waste of time and especially money. They won't help you lose belly fat. You can't pick and choose where to lose body fat.

The only way to lose belly fat and keep it off for good is to eat healthy and exercise. Sounds simple, right? Well it is! It really is that simple!

When I say "eat healthy", that means eating the right amounts of food as well as the right type of food. Going to fast food joints even once a week is not going to help you lose fat; and no, not even if you order the "healthy" option from their menu. You need to take nutrition seriously if you really want to lose fat and shed some pounds.

As for exercising, while you don't have to hit the gym everyday for hours on end, it does mean that you have to put in the effort to get the results. If you're just starting out, just focus on increasing your heart rate and you can do that simply by a fast walk in the evening or a light jog in the morning and you need to be consistent. For those who aren't completely new to exercising, focus on intensity, which of course is directly related to heart rate. Everyone should gradually increase the intensity and difficulty of your workouts to really maximize your efforts and see results quicker.

It's important to stay positive. Because the results will not come overnight, it can be easy to get discouraged. But stay focused on your goal of successful weight loss. Keep it in your mind and it will keep you going. Your determination and self-discipline will bring the greatest reward when you realize that you've lost that excess weight and body fat and now can stand proudly in the mirror and say "I did it!"
