There really is no such thing as a scarless tummy tuck. But there are things that the surgeon can do to minimize scarring and reduce the visibility of them. The incisions for a tummy tuck must be made in the abdominal region of the body, in order to remove extra fat, tissue and skin, as well as to tighten the stomach muscles to make they flatter.
There are two types of tummy tuck procedures for people who want to improve their body contour and to return it to a more youthful appearance. These procedures are a complete tummy tuck, and a lower or mini tummy tuck. This is also sometimes referred to as a partial tummy tuck. This lower or mini surgery is also called the scarless tummy tuck because the incisions made are tiny compared to the ones made during a traditional tuck operation.
This scarless tummy tuck works best for people who have only accumulated fat deposits in the lower stomach region. The surgeon can then place the incision in a location easily covered by a bikini or hidden by other clothing after the surgery is completed.
In traditional or full tummy tucks, the incision runs vertically from hip to hip, and requires a second incision to replace the belly button back to its more central location on the lower abdomen. The navel is not repositioned during a scarless tummy tuck. The partial tuck also takes less time to complete, which means less time for the patient under anesthesia, which lessens the possibility of complications. This partial procedure can also be done on an outpatient basis rather than involve a day or two stay at a medical facility, which is more expensive.
During scarless tummy tuck surgery recovery, most people do experience, pain, swelling and bruising for the first four to six weeks of the recovery period. More serious complications are rare, however some people become infected, experience excessive bleeding or suffer skin necrosis and slow healing. Skin necrosis is another name for tissue death. This usually happens in the area around the belly button.
These complications are the reason why it is vitally important to follow all of the doctor's orders for the post operative recovery period. Some things that you cannot do while recovering include, smoking and the taking of aspirin or aspirin containing medications. Failure to follow these two instructions will greatly slow down the healing process. It can also lead to larger and more prominent scars and scar tissue forming along the incision lines and even under the skin.
