Is an Endoscopic Tummy Tuck the Answer for You?

An endoscopic tummy tuck is great for people who have weak muscles in the lower stomach area and are still relatively tight skinned in that area as well. In other words, there is not a lot of belly fat with which to contend. This kind of tuck is usually combined with liposuction to remove fat tissue. However this is not the procedure for you, if you need to get rid of some loose skin, as well.

Endoscopic tummy tucks are performed on both men and women, but they are the tuck of choice for men who still have relatively elastic skin. Women sometimes have to deal with looser skin due to pregnancy and that fact that women do develop more fat in the region at an earlier age than men.

This procedure is done with a small camera called an endoscope which is then attached to small surgical instruments. The surgeon works his or her magic through very small incisions that are very easy to conceal after the fact.

The incisions are generally made just about the pubis or inside the navel. Both tightening and suturing are done through these tiny openings, as is any liposuction. Small drains are placed inside the incisions before they are closed up to allow for the draining of any fluids that may buildup during the healing process. Once the drains are in place then the tummy tuck incisions are closed.

Recovery from an endoscopic tummy tuck is routinely quick given the lack of invasive-ness of the surgery. Patients generally do feel slight to moderate discomfort and may suffer some swelling. But this is considered normal.

There should be no smoking or exercising or excess moving around while in the healing process. Expect to miss at least a week off work during this process. Patients usually can return to normal activity within two to three weeks. However, doctors recommend that all strenuous activity be avoided for upwards of six to eight weeks, to allow the body to fully heal. That especially includes no heavy lifting at all.

Before you commit to having any type of surgical procedure sit down and have a lengthy and detailed consultation with your doctor. In fact, it is good to talk to and to investigate several surgeons before making your decisions.

You should select the doctor with whom you feel most comfortable and who is being honest about what you can expect, before during and after the surgery. Once you feel comfortable then make your decision.
