There are three different prices included in the cost of a tummy tuck. There is the anesthesia fee, the facility fee and the surgeon's fee. The first two are somewhat cut and dry. The doctor's fee is more difficult because it all depends on what he has to do, procedurally, as well as before care, after care and medication.

The average doctor fee can run from $3,000 to $9,000. This depends on where you have the surgery done, as well. Doctors in big cities cost more than doctors in smaller, less populated areas. The anesthesiology fee averages between $500 and $700, while the cost of the facility will run as high as $1000. The cost of the tummy tuck procedure generally falls between $4,000 and $8,500, again depending on where you have it done. Bear in mind that the more skin, fat and tissue to be removed, the longer the procedure time and the higher the cost. Doctors do perform tucks in an office surgical suite, however most are done at hospitals, which increases the cost. If the patients require an overnight stay in the hospital then this too increases cost.

For safety sake, choosing a board certified physician to perform the surgery is of paramount importance given that all surgery comes with some risk of complication and possible death. However, the more training and certification a doctor has, the higher the cost of his services. Be sure to conduct a thorough investigation into the doctor's credentials and certifications prior to committing to any procedure. Some people opt to have tummy tuck procedures performed in another country where the cost may be cheaper. Bear in mind that the person performing the surgery may have different certifications than American doctors. It is important to scrutinize the qualifications before getting on a plane.

Be aware that the entire cost of the tummy tuck may come out of pocket because you won't be able to bill your insurance company. Tucks are considered cosmetic surgery and therefore are not covered by health insurance plans in America. Knowing this surgeons, or many surgeons offer liberal payment plans or have worked out agreements with finance companies to help their patients afford the procedures that they desire.

And prior to committing to any out of pocket expense, check your surgeon's licenses and credentials. Also investigate whether or not they are board certified and qualified to perform the procedures that you want done. Finally, check nearby towns and cities. Sometimes a you will find a qualified physician who is willing to perform your procedures for a lot less money. Remember, the doctors in large cities almost always come with a higher price tag. A little travel can really save you some money in the end.
