Is a Mini Tummy Tuck the Same as a Partial Tummy Tuck?

You've been exercising like a fiend and still you can't seem to get rid of that extra fat just below the belly button. No matter what you do, how many times you go to the gym, how many ten mile runs you take or how many dumb bell reps you force, it's still there, soft and flabby, hiding the beautiful six pack that is underneath the flab, waiting to be revealed. Well, sometimes exercise is not the answer. Sometimes the best way to handle a stubborn body area is to remake it with minor cosmetic surgery, like a mini tummy tuck, for example.

This procedure is good for people who have extra fat between the navel and the pubic bone. That bulging that we all eventually suffer in this area is the result of loosening abdominal muscles and tissue, as well as a buildup of excess fat tissue. It happens to all of us as we age. Women in particular have this problem, mainly brought on during and after pregnancy. What a mini tummy tuck does is to tighten the abdominal walls, and remove the loosened extra skin and fat.

A mini abdominoplasty, which is the formal name of the procedure, is most often performed in a hospital under general anesthesia. However it can be done with local anesthesia under sedation. An incision is made, whereby the skin and extra fat are cut away. Sometimes it is necessary to detach the belly button in order to better work and smooth the skin. It is later reinserted. Some liposuction may also be done to remove any stubborn fat tissue from the area.

Recovery time from a mini tummy tuck involves being off work for about a week, primarily because of the need to minimize pressure on the incision. The doctor may have also inserted drains to deal with any excess fluid buildup that may occur following surgery. Strenuous activity or going back to the gym are out of the question for about six weeks after the mini tummy tuck. It is a very good time to catch up on your reading, watching television or lounging around in bed. Just don't move around too much.

A mini tummy tuck is a pretty safe procedure. However as with all surgeries, there is some risk involved. Problems can occur depending on the exact kind of procedure undertaken, as well as with the type of anesthesia used. It is very important to talk to the doctor about all risk and expectations prior to having the surgery done.
