No doubt about it, a a growing beer belly will stretch the stomach muscles, weaken the skin and cause stretch marks to appear. The process accelerates as we get older. As men age, fat redistributes itself to the abdominal region and for many men, exercise alone will not help. However, a full or partial tummy tuck may be the answer to some men's prayer for a younger and leaner body.

For the absolute best results the tummy tuck surgery should be paired with good eating habits and regular exercise. The formal name for the procedure is abdominoplasty and for men it is usually done on an outpatient basis. It is performed under general or local anesthesia and sedation. In a full tuck two incisions are made. One running hip to hip, the other made in order to reposition the navel. During the procedure the stomach muscles are tightened and the excess skin is removed to reveal the musculature underneath. The remaining skin is stretched and smoothed to accomplish this.

A mini tuck results in less skin being removed and the belly button is not repositioned. It is left in place. The incisions used are also smaller and recovery time is shorter. Liposuction is also sometimes performed at the same time to remove any excess fat from the area. A full male tummy tuck takes about 2 to 5 hours, while a mini lasts for 1 or 2.

There is yet another popular procedure among men. It is the endoscopic tummy tuck. Small incisions are made and instruments using a small camera or endoscope are used to accomplish the surgery or tightening the abdominal area. No skin is removed during this process.

The cost of a tummy tuck for men varies. A full tuck can run from $6,000 to $10,000. While a mini can cost about half that. There are extended procedures involving the hips, sides and thighs that will more than double the original cost of the surgery. Other additional charges include the surgeon's fee, the facility fee, the cost of anesthesia, laboratory or test fees and the cost of follow up consultations..
As with all surgeries it is recommended that only board certified and licensed doctors be consulted for these types of operations. Failure to use a licensed and experienced doctor can lead to serious complications including death. So be patient and investigate all possibilities before settling on a physician to handle your case. This is not a time to seek instant gratification.
