The wonderful thing about meditation, is not just that it bestows the most remarkable benefits upon those who practice it sincerely, but also that it is completely free. Although there is a great debate regarding whether it is ethical or not to charge for spiritual services, I think if one wants to learn how to meditate, one can do so without spending a fortune. There are many great resources on the internet from where you can learn meditation for free, and in this article I will also teach you 3 great meditations at no cost to you.

If you need motivation to start your meditation practice, you can look even look towards the mainstream medical community now, as they too have acknowledged that meditation is excellent for your health and wellbeing. Of course, the ultimate aim of meditation is to help you realize your divine nature, but along this path to spiritual awakening, many material benefits are also bestowed by meditation. So whether you are looking for healing, peace of mind, stress release, psychic powers, or enlightenment, meditation is the answer for you. Especially given that now you have access to free meditation, what is the harm in giving it a try?

Below I will detail two excellent meditation techniques for you to incorporate into your daily life. These two techniques come from various Eastern religions and are among the most practiced techniques in the world today. My suggestion is to try both and then choose the one which you find most suitable and stick to it for at least six months or so. I am certain you will start to experience wonderful results sooner, but to establish a long term daily practice should be your ultimate goal.

Free Meditation #1: Buddhist Meditation:

Today perhaps Buddhist meditation is very likely the most widely practiced meditation in the world today. If you are interested in developing concentration, peace of mind, moment to moment awareness culminating in Self Realization, then this is the technique for you.

To practice Buddhist meditation, sit very still and bring your attention to your breathing. You may have your eyes open or closed, but most importantly your back should be straight and you should not fidget or move during the entire meditation session. Once you bring your attention to you breathing, you should count your breaths as they flow through your nostrils. Feel each breath and count one for the inhalation, two for the exhalation, three for the next inhalation, and continue till you reach ten. Once you reach ten, return to one and start over. If at any time during the counting you get lost in your thoughts, simply return to one and start over without judging yourself in any way. The key to this meditation, is to bring yourself into the here and now, using your breath as the anchor for this task.

Free Meditation #2: OM Mantra Chanting:

OM mantra chanting comes from the great Hindu meditation traditions and is part of the mantra meditations school in general. The meditation, uses mantra or sound vibrations as the target of your concentration to help you develop mental focus and insight into the ways of the mind and reality. If you are looking for tranquility, psychic powers, healing, culminating in enlightenment then this meditation is for you.

To practice OM Mantra meditation sit in any comfortable position keeping your spine straight and being to chant out loud the sound OM. Make a long sound "OOOO" and finish with a shorter "MMM". To further enhance the affects of this meditation, turn your eyes upwards and look through the center of your forehead. This will help to awaken the Third Eye, which is the seat of intuition and psychic powers. Also, opening the Third Eye will give you insight into the true nature of reality and help you realize the Oneness of everything.

Summary:

So there you have two great meditations to practice for personal and spiritual growth. The highest purpose of life is to realize God, for which meditation is the key. As I mentioned, the great thing about meditation is that it is completely free and can be practiced by all people. This is one of the greatest blessings in life, as it implies that each of us has the opportunity to achieve life's highest goals, regardless of weather we are rich or poor. I wish you the very best in your journey back to the Source.
