If you have recently lost a significant amount of weight, you may feel that you need to improve your figure. Having an extended tummy tuck procedure can help to enhance and improve the muscles in your abdominal area, your hips and your back.

If you have excess skin and fat in those areas, then you could be a candidate for this procedure. It can help to tone up your body, especially if the presence of excess skin and fat is a nuisance on your body. It can also add additional, unwanted pounds.

This procedure involves the surgeon removing excess skin from your flank and back areas. Even after you had a regular tummy tuck procedure, there was still excess skin and fat on the flank and back.

With this surgical procedure, the surgeon makes an incision. The incision goes to the length of your abdomen and goes to the back of your hips. If you have any muscles that are showing, the surgeon will tighten them. After the excess skin and fat has been removed, the surgeon uses sutures to close the incision.

With some surgeries of this kind, the surgeon may incorporate liposuction with an extended tummy tuck procedure. The liposuction helps to get the right shape for your body. If you want to enhance your body even more, you can get a thigh or butt lift.

You will need to be admitted and stay in the hospital at least one to three days. This procedure is different than the regular tummy tuck. The surgeon creates a longer incision and your physical changes are extensive.

You will also have tubes installed under your skin. These tubes are used to drain excess fluid from your body. This drainage also helps your incisions to heal properly. You will be able to go home after a few days. You will probably feel uncomfortable and experience pain, so you will have medication to help with any pain and discomfort.

Because you will have to rest, you will need someone to help you, at least for the first few days after you have been discharged. The tubes will stay in your skin for at least two weeks. Or if you are healing faster, it could be one week. You are not allowed to shower until the tubes have been removed and you are given the ok.

Also, keep in mind that you will have bruising and swelling. This is part of the after-effects during the post-surgery period. It takes about six weeks for the swelling to disappear. At least two weeks after the surgery, you may be able to engage in light activity. However, it is best to speak with your surgeon prior to doing so.
