When you are recovering from a tummy tuck procedure, the average time can take up to four weeks, sometimes even more. How quickly you recover depends on your health, what kind of surgery you had, and how well you adhere to post-surgery instructions from your surgeon. When you follow the instructions as you are directed to, your recovery can be a smooth and more comfortable transition.

With most tummy tuck surgeries, you will be required to stay in bed from a few days to a week. You will not be able to be active or go back to work right away. You must allow your body to heal.

Since this was an invasive procedure, by no means minimal, you must allow yourself to time to heal properly. If you are healthy, you can have a speedy and safe recovery. Your surgeon will advise you on when you can resume normal activity and when you can bathe or shower.

Whatever medication is prescribed for you, you must take it. After the tummy tuck surgery, you will probably feel pain and some discomfort. You will be able to take medication for that so that you can feel at ease.

You must take the medication as directed in order to experience the maximum results. Take all of your medication until you run out. Just because you start to feel better does not mean that you have completely recovered. You can still have a setback or get an infection in your abdominal area.

Another post-surgery instruction to follow is to check how much drainage there is for each day. More than likely, you will have a tummy tuck drain to use when you get home. The tube is inserted in your abdominal area where the surgeon made the incision. This is where the fluid comes from.

For every day that you have this drain, you will have to determine how much fluid was drained. At the end of the day, you can get rid of it (the fluid). Having the drain is crucial because when the fluid is coming out, you are preventing unnecessary infections from invading your body.

It is a safe haven for you. For most people, they have to use the tummy tuck drain for at least five days. The most that a person will use it is about three weeks. That period of time is for those who have a lot of fluid to get rid of.

Once you get the green light to start exercising, start out with something light such as walking. Anything where you have to stretch is not recommended. Stick to walking for a while. Exercise is good after this kind of surgery because it keeps you moving and can shorten your time of recovery.

You must remember that you cannot rush the recovery process from tummy tuck surgery. It is a major invasive surgical procedure and you must give your body a chance to get back to normal.
