Liposuction is extremely popular as a surgery in its own right. Interestingly, it is also becoming more common as an "add on."
More and more plastic surgeons are offering "complete makeovers" or "cosmetic surgery packages," which include multiple cosmetic surgeries on one price tag. These sorts of packages have been around for a while. However, they seem to be rising in popularity, especially among 20 and 30 year old women. Some experts think that this increase in package deals is a function of the recession; others point to issues of changing body image. Regardless, liposuction frequently features prominently in these package deals.
Dr. Evan Sorokin of Delaware Valley Plastic Surgery sees a lot of young women come in for breast enhancements. An increasing number of these are adding on liposuction as an additional procedure. Dr. Sorokin doesn't find this increase surprising; in his mind liposuction can help to improve the results of a breast augmentation: "Packaged procedures that include liposuction give women a way to further accentuate their breast enhancement result."
Dr. Sorokin further states that adding liposuction doesn't hurt one's recovery time: "packaging breast augmentation with liposuction . . . can create a nicer result without substantially extending the recovery period."
Dr. Sorokin dismisses the idea that liposuction is something intended solely for the old: "even younger patients may have areas of unwanted fat that can be removed with SmartLipo. My patients are often excited by the possibility of creating a better body contour while enhancing their breast appearance."
Liposuction is also popular in bridal plastic surgery packages. Bridal plastic surgery packages include a number of different treatments that are designed to improve a woman's appearance over all her body. In addition to liposuction, these packages frequently include breast enhancement, laser hair removal, cellulite treatment, and a variety of other procedures. If intended as part of a bridal package, Dr. Stephen Greenberg of Greenberg Plastic Surgery suggests that liposuction be performed three months before the wedding.
Liposuction is similarly popular in post-pregnancy packages. Post-pregnancy packages focus on correcting any damage done to the female figure during the course of pregnancy. They generally focus on lifting and firming the breasts, tightening the abdomen, and removing excess fat. In these packages, liposuction is frequently accompanied by treatments such as tummy-tucks and breast lifts. If a tummy-tuck is included in the package, then liposuction is typically not performed on the abdomen, but is restricted to other areas, like the thighs or hips.
