If you plan to have tummy tuck surgery, it is important to advise the surgeon of all the medications that you are currently taking. Not only that, if you are consuming any kind of supplements or vitamins, the surgeon needs to know about those as well.

The most crucial information is providing the surgeon with the ones you have used in the six months prior. Any of those things can affect you while you are having the surgical procedure.

For at least two weeks before you are scheduled for a tummy tuck, you will be advised not to consume aspirin or aspirin related product. In fact, any common pain relievers are not to be taken, either. Pain relievers usually contain ibuprofen. Because aspirin and pain relievers are considered to be blood thinners, you are at risk for excessive bleeding.

However, if you do require a pain reliever, you can use Tylenol. Of course, make sure to consult with the surgeon prior to having the tummy tuck. If you are thinking about purchasing alternative over the counter medicine, you should not do it. The majority of them are not safe to use while you are preparing for this surgical procedure.

You will also have to stop using herbal supplements prior to your surgery. Just because they are natural does not mean that you can use them. These and other supplements can be an interference and increase the risk of you having additional complications and side effects.

If you are getting a tummy tuck and you use addictive drugs occasionally, please inform your surgeon. Any kind of recreational drugs should not be in your system. If you are using them, you should stop immediately. Even after the surgical procedure is completed, you should not be using them.

Nicotine is the addictive drug in cigarettes. If you are a smoker, you should stop smoking at least three weeks prior to the surgery. Smoking cigarettes can seriously compromise the outcome of your tummy tuck procedure.

What it does is it cuts down on the circulation of the blood flow in your body. If you refuse to stop smoking and you have the surgery anyway, the healing and recovery process will not be effective.

It will take you longer to heal and you will also incur additional scars from the surgery. Since the scars will be more visible, you could be disappointed. However, it would be your own fault because you would not stop smoking.

There are some prescription medicines that you will still need to take due to a pre-existing condition. However, all of this information should be discussed with the surgeon. Effective communication with them can help you to have a successful surgical procedure. Not only that, it can help you be safe versus being in danger during the process.
