With a tummy tuck, anesthesia is used to prevent you from feeling pain during the surgical procedure. If you have to be cut during surgery, anesthesia works to keep your body from going into overdrive while you are being worked on.

Anesthesia is used to make your surgical procedure more pleasant. In fact, the surgery becomes a distant memory because you are not feeling the pain. The pain is not for you to remember. Once the surgery is over, you do not have to concern yourself with it.

In order for a surgeon to successfully perform the tummy tuck procedure, anesthesia has to be administered. It works to temporarily halt the different functions of your body, such as motor, mental and sensory. Plus, the healing process is quicker after the surgery. Provided that you properly take care of yourself after the surgery, it can be a big plus.

Anesthesia also temporarily puts you to sleep. This helps because you will not feel any pain, nor will you know what is going on during the surgery. You will be in such a deep sleep that you will not be able to hear anything.

An anesthesiologist is usually the person that administers it prior to you having a tummy tuck. It may consist of one drug or a variety of them. It just depends on what you need to make the surgical procedure effective.

For the most part, the drugs are effective when you are having a tummy tuck. It is rare that they do not. Of course, you have to factor in your overall health and how are powerful the drugs that are being administered.

There are some people who get the drugs prior to having a tummy tuck and end up needing an extra dose. That is because what was initially administered was not enough for them. They would still feel the pain.

So the anesthesiologist has to administer several additional doses or just one more additional dose. Since the doses are powerful (even one by itself), it is important not to administer too much.

You want the surgical procedure to go off with a hitch, so it is very important that you are able to tolerate it. It is also important that you receive the correct dosage.

After surgery, the anesthesia will wear off. The good thing about this is that even though you may have pain and discomfort afterwards, you still will not have as much pain if you did not have the drugs administered to you. The less pain you have to deal with, the better.

However, if for some reason you have issues with it being administered to you, consult the surgeon performing the tummy tuck procedure. The last thing you want is to have some kind of adverse reaction that may defeat the purpose of having a successful surgery.
