Before you decide on getting a tummy tuck, it is a good idea to look for a surgeon to perform the procedure. Compile a list of names of potential surgeon candidates. Evaluate their information, including certifications and other credentials.

Do not forget to search for any information of malpractice. That is important because you want the right surgeon doing your cosmetic surgical procedure. Keep in mind that all of the information that you are looking for may not be readily available. However, you can ask around to see if anyone can recommend a tummy tuck surgeon to you.

It is important that the surgeon performing the tummy tuck is board certified. This means that the surgeon is required to certify the surgeon so that they will be allowed to perform cosmetic surgical procedures.

Two of the organizations that do this are the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. You can go online to the database for the American Board of Surgery. You will be able to find out if the surgeon in question is board certified.

If you do not find them or find out they are not board certified, that is a red flag. Do not use one that is not board certified. You could be risking your life on it.

There are only some surgeons that have liability or malpractice insurance. It is not required in all states. You can ask your surgeon if they have it. However, you may be setting yourself up for a little tension. Even with that, you still have the right to know whether or not they have it or not.

You can also check with the insurance departments in the area where the surgeon is licensed. Even with this, you may only be able to get so much information. There are some tummy tuck surgeons who have a surety bond. A surety bond is cheaper than having malpractice insurance. With a surety bond, the surgeon has assets that can be liquidated or has set aside money for this purpose.

If you are pursuing checking their malpractice history, you can check at the courthouse in the area where they practice. You will be looking for lawsuits, trials or any arbitration that may be on the court docket. You can ask a court clerk for further assistance.

Not all tummy tuck surgical procedures are performed at a hospital. There are some that are performed at an outside surgical facility. They have operating rooms that are not located inside of a hospital. Some surgeons would rather do the surgical procedure at an outside location because that is where there office is. Or they may have a surgical suite.

If you do have your tummy tuck performed there, make sure that the surgical facility is accredited. If it is, you can be assured that it has the sufficient equipment and instruments needed to perform the surgery. The facility should also be equipped with emergency functions and equipment in the event there is an actual emergency.

It may be a little time consuming, but having the right surgeon and surgical facility is crucial to a successful tummy tuck procedure.
