Finding a good shoulder strengthening exercise is one way to help you perform well in your sports, whether you are into swimming, tennis, volleyball or any other sports. Even if you are just sitting on your desk the entire day, finding a good shoulder strengthening exercise will help you avoid shoulder pains that is sometimes brought about by bad posture.

A great yet simple shoulder strengthening exercise can also help you tone your shoulder muscles and gives it the flexibility you need in doing the usual chores you do. If you love painting, it is also a good idea to do a simple shoulder strengthening exercise to help you have flexible shoulders and avoid shoulder pains.

One important part of the shoulders that you have to focus your attention to is the rotator cuff, the part of the shoulders that is responsible for its circular motion, and when this part of the shoulders are injured, this can also lead to pain and restricted movements. Thus, being able to exercise and strengthen these parts of the shoulders will help you build muscle mass and prevent tearing of the tendons.

For a good shoulder strengthening exercise, here are some simple ones that you can regularly practice.

Stretching. Stretching your shoulders is important before attempting any exercises. In any forms of exercise, it is important to keep in mind to stretch and warm up to prevent injuries and muscle pains after your activity. One good shoulder stretching exercise you can do is gently pulling your right elbow with your left hand at the back of your head for about 10 to 15 seconds. You can also do this with the other elbow. Another stretching exercise you can do is gently pulling and stretching your arm from behind without bending your elbow and maintaining a straight back.

Strengthening exercises. To help you strengthen your rotator cuff, you can use dumbbells and do the external rotation while lying on your side. This is done by lying on your side with one arm resting on your stomach. With dumbbells on your hand, you then gently lift your arm slowly upwards.

Another simple exercise you can do is to stand with dumbbells on hand and lifting them slowly bringing them at 45 degree angle just way above the head. Another easy and simple shoulder strengthening exercise is to lie face down on a bench or a table and letting one arm hang on the side. With dumbbell on hand, you can then raise your arm sideward up to the level which is parallel to the body. Make sure though that you do not raise it above your body as it can also cause strain in your shoulders.

Another useful exercise that you can do to strengthen your shoulders is by pulling a cable pulley or exercise tube attached to a straight bar. You can do a couple of variations of this particular exercise like pulling the cable pulley on the side with your elbows on your side or pulling the cable out to the side with your arms stretched outwards at shoulder level.

In any shoulder strengthening exercise, you have to make sure that you are doing the exercise correctly to avoid any injuries and strain on your shoulders.
