What exactly is tendonitis? Tendonitis is inflammation of a tendon. And what is a tendon? Tendons are those tough cords of tissue that connect muscles to bones. It occurs and is most commonly seen in the wrist and fingers, and can cause swelling, pain, and discomfort.

Tendonitis can be a very painful and unpleasant condition. Symptoms may include pain with movement, swelling from fluid accumulation and inflammation, and a grating sensation in the absence of swelling. This is a trying and tiring condition, to say the least, but one that can be treated and eliminated in many cases, with the help of a trained physician. Doctors diagnose tendonitis after a medical examination and an analysis of medical history.

Tendonitis is often diagnosed after joint aspirations have ruled out gout or an infection, and X-rays have eliminated arthritis as a potential cause. Tendonitis shares several symptoms with those disorders, so they must be eliminated as potential diagnosis.

How does one treat tendonitis once it is diagnosed? This is not a question that is easily answered. The doctor will prescribe treatment based on a number of factors, including age, overall health, and medical history; extent of the condition; specific organs affected; the tolerance of a patient for various types of treatment; how long the condition is expected to last.

All of these factors play vital roles in determining appropriate treatments for tendonitis, and only a trained doctor can tell for sure which are best for you. Treatment may include modification of activity, splinting or immobilization, surgery, and/or anti-inflammatory mediciations. All-natural treatments also may be recommended, including herbal creams and supplements. Massage may be recommended, along with cold compresses.

And as always, rest and relaxation are part of the cure, as is sensible living and an avoidance of undue physical strain. Sometimes a variety of cures will be prescribed to ease and eliminate this condition.

Regardless of its cause or severity, tendonitis is a common condition that affects countless people throughout the world, impairing their movement and affecting their lives. However, this condition can be relieved with the help of a trained physician and a good dose of sensible living. Do not let tendonitis get the best of you; see a doctor today.

Tendonitis is a painful and common condition that literally puts a cramp in any lifestyle. Yet with the proper treatment and sensible life choices, in most cases tendonitis can be overcome. In no time at all you will be yourself again.
