The Ins and Outs of Bursitis

For those with bursitis, basic nutritional and natural remedies are available to control and eventually eliminate your pain. They should remember, though, that the very presence of bursitis is nearly always a symptom of an affiliated disorder somewhere else in the body. Careful testing for and correction of this associated problem can prevent a number of other health-related disorders. This article, however, emphasizes the problem of bursitis.

"Mainstream" medical treatment for this condition generally comes in the form of anti-inflammatory medication. The pain of bursitis generally is alleviated when inflammation is reduced, but other unwanted effects often follow. Injectable vitamin B12 alleviates bursitis pain without producing undesired effects.

We advise self-injection of 1000 to 2000 milligrams of vitamin B12 daily until the pain disappears. Almost always, pain is reduced within a period of three days and disappears totally within two to three weeks. Self-injection is taught to minimize the inconvenience, expense and travel time associated with visiting a doctor for injections.

In the more than two decades I have spent working with people with bursitis I've only seen this procedure fail in one instance.

For that person, rubbing in vitamin E followed by DMSO several times a day over the inflamed bursa relieved the pain within the period of a few days. Both of these items are available for sale at a number of natural food stores.

Their number is provided at the conclusion of this brief. Some people have tried swallowing vitamin B12 to ease bursitis pain. This sometimes works but not often.

This leads us to a discussion of a disorder commonly associated with bursitis, the failure of normal stomach function.

Normally functioning stomachs digest food with the help of strong hydrochloric and pepsin, an enzyme active in an acidic environment. Normally functioning stomachs also manufacture a molecule key to the assimilation of vitamin B12- if the stomach isn't functioning properly, vitamin B12 frequently works much better when injected than when swallowed. Just to be safe, I recommend the testing of stomach function for everyone who's experienced bursitis.

As well as aiding vitamin B12 assimilation, normal stomachs perform considerable protein digestion and extract minerals from their food-bound form, transforming them into forms more easily available to our anatomies. If your stomach isn't working well, your body will not be sufficiently nourished by minerals and proteins, and your health as a result will not be as strong.

Normal stomach function, specifically stomach acid, forms a needed barrier against many infectious microorganisms. Without the germ-killing capabilities of fully normal stomach acid, you will be more prone to the development of a host of gastrointestinal infections.

Bursitis is often an indicator of future health problems, which might arrive much sooner than they would otherwise.

Before deciding if these diet and supplement therapies are right for you, consider factors such as age, sex, metabolism and potential allergies. Consult a health care professional skilled in nutritional and natural therapies to discuss these factors and how they may affect your course of treatment.
