Heartburn can be a discomfort and before it can progress to GERD or the gastroesophageal reflux disease, you have to find ways to treat this condition. Indeed, it can be as simple as finding the best diet for heartburn and preventing it to worsen.

The most common symptom of heartburn is pain and burning sensation that you can feel in your chest and at times in your throat, your neck and even the jaw. Seeking treatment for this condition is important as it can worsen and it may damage the esophagus too. Although it is called heartburn, it has nothing to do with the heart though.

You can, however, do something with your diet to help you prevent it from worsening. Some foods are said to aggravate the symptoms of heartburn, thus planning a healthy diet for heartburn can help a lot in alleviating the pain and the symptoms as well.

The foods that may trigger your heartburn may differ from others but it would be of big help to be well-informed of foods that can possibly trigger the condition. It would help if you can identify your specific triggers too.

Here are some of the most common foods that you may watch out in planning a diet for heartburn.

Caffeine in coffee, soft drinks or in tea can be a trigger of heartburn, so you may want to avoid these drinks. If you opt for juice, also avoid orange, citrus or grapefruit juice. Cranberry juice as well as lemonade can also be triggers of heartburn. Tomato and products using tomato are also possible triggers.

Fatty foods and spicy foods are not also good to add to your diet for heartburn. If you love fast food, you may want to start cutting it down to avoid possible triggers of heartburn. French fries, pizza, fried chicken and other fried and high-fat foods can trigger the reflux of acid into your throat causing heartburn. If you are serious on avoiding heartburn, you should cut down on these fast food favorites before you can encounter problems with your esophagus.

Sweets and desserts are not safe too. Chocolates have caffeine, which can trigger heartburn. Butter cookies, ice creams, cheese and creamy dressings are also potential triggers. If you can't totally get away with them at once, you may start by eating less of them.

Aside from coffee and soft drinks, alcohol and wine can also trigger heartburn. Cutting back on alcohol intake would also help in avoiding heartburn. Some lifestyle changes can also help in avoiding heartburn. Your smoking habit can also worsen your heartburn, so you may want to stop smoking too. It can also help to avoid lying down after eating to avoid acid from the stomach to travel back to your throat.

You have to keep in mind too that sometimes it is not about the food you eat but the quantity. Eating large amounts of food at a time can be a culprit as well in developing heartburn, thus you have to watch too that you are not overeating.

Generally, this is not just a diet for heartburn, but it is also helpful in avoiding common health problems as well as weight problems in the future.
