Many different components contribute to the cost of a tummy tuck. The fee for anesthesia, facilities and the surgeon add up to the total final cost. Depending on the type of surgery and extent, the surgeon himself, the facility where the surgery will be performed and complications that may arise, the surgery cost ranges from $3,000 to $9,000.

There are factors that can increase or decrease cost. Doctors in big cities cost more than those in smaller cities. Also, the better known doctors like the ones in Beverly Hills, California or in Manhattan, New York tend to be more pricey. The fee for anesthesia costs about $500 and $700 alone, and facility cost runs about as high as $1000. As for the procedure, the more extensive and the longer the procedure time, the higher resulting cost. Some tucks can be performed in a medical office decreasing cost by removing the facility fee. If an overnight stay is required, the total cost dramatically higher.

Make sure to choose a board certified physician to reduce risk and possible death. Check credentials and certifications prior to committing to any surgery by any physician. Some people attempt to have surgery in another country to reduce cost, but keep in mind that there are different certifications and guidelines in foreign countries versus those for America. It is important to research the qualifications before heading overseas.

There are some tummy tucks that are covered by insurance and but some are not. When you are paying out of pocket, cost is a big issue. Since tucks are considered cosmetic, surgeons tend to offer payment plans or offer their own finance companies to help patients afford the procedures that they desire. For some, a physician can recommend a the surgery as necessary to remove fat that is causing health problems. For those one hundred pounds or more overweight, this might be an option.

When deciding between money or your health, always consider your health as a top priority. Attempting to get cheap surgery and forsaking your health is not a wise decision. There are ways to locate a great surgeon that fits your budget by doing some research, checking credentials and asking for referrals. But if you choose a physician on cost alone, you could be in for trouble. Remember safety first, beauty later. You only have one life to live, make it a good one and a healthy one.
