Men statistically store fat in their abdominal area more than other areas of their bodies. In their twenties six pack abs and lean torsos prevail. But once they hit their thirties or forties, all the years of partying, drinking beer and eating whatever they wanted, catches up to them in the midsection. When metabolism slows, men start to pack on the pounds in their bellies. Most men with a big belly have small legs and small buttocks.

Men are getting into plastic surgery and gaining speed on women. All surgery contains risk and should be taken seriously. Men should first have a consultation with a board certified doctor to decide what is right for them and what type of tummy tightening will work for them. Laser liposuction produces minimal scarring, bruising and swelling and has skin tightening benefits as well.

It is typically recommended for those with less than fifteen pounds of fat to lose and someone who has good skin elasticity, pretty much someone under sixty years old. Traditional liposuction works better for larger amounts of fat but on those whose skin is still in good condition. For those men with large amounts of fat to lose that may produce sagging skin in the abdomen and love handle area, might be recommended to undergo a tummy tuck.

Abdominoplasty is performed with an incision is made in the abdomen from hip bone to hip bone below the belly button and above the pubic bone. A second incision is made around the belly button. The skin and fat flap is lifted to reveal the underlying muscle. The surgeon will pull the muscle closer together and stitch them, providing a firm abdominal wall and subsequently a thinner waistline. The raised skin is pulled down tight over the muscle back down the public bone incision and the excess skin with fat is cut off. Then the skin flap is stitched back to the original incision at the pubic bone. A new belly button is formed by creating a hole where the underlying belly button is and pulling it through. The surgery takes roughly two to five hours, depending on the amount of fat and skin being removed.

Recovery time is generally up to two weeks long with only light activity while wearing a compression garment to reduce swelling. Pain is managed with pain medication. Smoking and sun tanning should be avoided during the recovery period.
