Many people who undergo liposuction become concerned that they will regrow the fat that has been removed from their bodies. They worry that they have wasted the money that they have spent on their procedures.

In fact, some people do put on weight again after their cosmetic surgery, and some people end up in worse shape than they were in before their liposuction. On the other hand, there are many people who successfully keep the pounds off and stay trim even long after their surgeries. The good news is that the health and slimness of a liposuction patient is entirely in his or her hands. This article will describe the problem of post-liposuction weight-gain and then address how to avoid it.

Liposuction is not and was never meant to be a total-body weight loss solution. Liposuction can work very well at helping fix specific problem areas, but in and of itself it cannot fix obesity. Liposuction will not drastically change a person's metabolism, so if you have weight issues prior to liposuction, chances are good that you will have weight issues again unless you change your habits.

Although there is no evidence to suggest that the fat cells that liposuction removes can regrow, you can still gain weight in the remaining fat cells in your body. Sometimes this can lead to unusual results if you allow yourself to gain large amounts of weight. You may find yourself putting on excess fat in places that you have never struggled with before. However, if you are careful and diligent, you should be able to prevent post-liposuction weight gain.

The principles governing weight-gain and weight-maintenance are, unsurprisingly, the same as for everyone else. An official study found out the following fairly-obvious but nonetheless important facts: patients who eat a healthy diet are only a third as likely as those who ate unhealthily to gain weight, while patients who followed an exercise plan did four times better at maintaining their weight than patients who didn't exercise.

You will probably do best if you establish healthy habits of exercise early after your liposuction, as soon as your recovery allows it. In fact, if you haven't yet had a liposuction, but are considering it, you would do well to begin an exercise plan now. It will both make you healthier for your surgery and prepare you to keep the pounds off after your procedure. If you begin a new exercise program after your liposuction, remember to ease into it; you don't want to hurt yourself. If you talk to your surgeon, he or she can give you advice about what sort of exercise regimen would suit you well.

Regardless of your circumstances, you can begin to eat more healthily. Be smart about it, though; avoid flash in the pan diets that won't meet your nutritive needs, and don't give in to the temptation to starvation diet. Eat foods that are low fat and which will give you the vitamins and minerals that you needs. Again, your surgeon should be able to help you find a diet which can help you to keep off the unwanted pounds.

Liposuction alone will not cure overweightness or obesity. It works best when it is accompanied by healthy diet, regular exercise and other healthy habits.
