Dealing with anxiety attacks can be quite difficult, but it can be treated. Nervousness and worry, or anxiety in general is but a normal feeling that most people might have experienced at one time or another.
You might have experienced being nervous or you may feel fear before speaking in front of an audience or you feel so tensed when taking a difficult challenge - we have gone through this feeling and tensed situations and sometimes we even think about avoiding the situation if we can. If you are experiencing these feelings and emotions, these are just normal but when this uncomfortable situation is excessive and may become a burden in your life, you may be having anxiety attacks, and it is just wise to find ways to overcome this as this may affect your quality of life.
If you are feeling anxious about some events or when you are exposed to the triggering factors, it may also cause you to panic thus, anxiety attacks are closely related to panic attacks where you can experience more uncomfortable symptoms like palpitations, shortness of breath, chest pain, nausea, hot flashes, dizziness and many other combination of symptoms which may often be misinterpreted as symptoms of heart attack.
Experiencing these symptoms often may also lead to an anxiety or panic disorder, thus seeking treatment is important in dealing with anxiety attacks. If you think there is no cure to this disorder, as most sufferers think, you have to be more positive about it because it is curable along with panic attacks. Sometimes sufferers keep these to themselves because they might feel ashamed but one way in dealing with anxiety attacks is to let it out in the open. Let a family or close friend know about it to help you overcome the thoughts of fear.
Anti-anxiety medications
Other ways in dealing with anxiety attacks are anti-anxiety medications but you have to keep in mind that they may also cause long-term side effects in the body including addiction. It may also be risky to have these medications together with other pills that you are taking such as pain killers and sleeping pills, and in combination with alcohol as well.
Cognitive behavioral therapy
The most popular and known to be the most effective way in dealing with anxiety attacks as well as panic attacks, is through cognitive behavioral therapy. It may not be something new to you as this is also used in dealing with alcoholism, addictions as well as treating anxiety and eating disorders. This method involves a systematic procedure using psychological techniques in overcoming these disorders. Make sure too that you are getting a good psychologist to help you with this treatment. When done correctly, this can be a great way to help you live a normal life once again, free from fear and too much anxiety.
Relaxation techniques
Engaging into some relaxation techniques can also help you in dealing with anxiety attacks. Learning to relax can help you calm your nerves and train your mind and body to relax. You can practice meditation to help you relax. Breathing exercises can also help you with this goal.
