Over active appetites are all too often the sabotage mechanism of any weight loss plan which is why so many people are turning to appetite suppressants. But unless you take the right type of supplements to curb your appetite you could be in for more trouble than weight loss.

The three main dangers of using appetite suppressants as your weight loss program include the side effects, loss of healthy nutrients and the bodys natural instinct to backfire.

Most appetite suppressants contain caffeine and ephedra. Ephedra constricts the blood vessels and speeds up the heart and the nervous system hence increasing the metabolism to burn calories. However these types of appetite suppressants can have certain side effects for some people from mild issues on irritability and nervousness to more serious issues like insomnia and high blood pressure.

We need a broad spectrum on vitamins, minerals and other nutrients every day to stay healthy, fight disease and repair the body. These same nutrients are also needed to loose weight. When you restrict calories in the diet that come from fruits, vegetables, legumes and complex grains not only are you starving your body of the nutrients you need, you are also setting up a backfiring mechanism that will enventually see you binge eat to make up for lost nutrition.

Unfortunately you do not binge on fruit and veges though. You tend to reach for the quick energy foods that are calorie laden and contribute to weight gain. This leads to yo yo dieting and that can lead to heart conditions over time as well as a number of other health issues. The best types of appetite suppressants then are those that also include within their forula or in the active ingredient themselves, nutrient dense molecules. Hoodia and Caralluma are two such cactus type nutrients that both suppress the appetite but provide nutrition to the body.

It is important that you eat well when trying to loose weight. Restrict your calorie intake by restricting the calorie laden foods like saturated fats, sugars, processed foods like bread, pasta, boxed cereals. My replacing them with 10 portion a day of fruit and vegetables you increase the nutrients you need to loose weight as well as reduce your calorie intake. Have you every met a fat person who got that way by eating tons of fruit and veg? Highly unlikely. It is the processed foods that give us the grief. Without eating the body can go into a state of shock where it thinks it is being starved. When this happens, the body stores every tiny bit of fat to protect itself from starvation. This can cause a major backfiring on anyone who is trying to lose weight.

The one good thing about taking a reputable natural appetite suppressant, is that they do reduce your desire for junk food and can often increase your appetite for the healthy foods you need. As long as you eat sensibly, keep regular exercise on the menu taking a natural appetite suppressant can go a long way to helping you achieve your weight goals.
