Oily skin is caused by overactive sebaceous glands. These glands produce an oily matter called sebum. When glands are overly productive, the excess sebum present in the gland sacs promotes bacteria called Proprionobacterium acnes to flourish.

Sebum also clogs pores resulting in bacteria proliferation. This is how acne occurs. Oily skin is not only shiny, dull-colored, and coarse, it is also acne-prone, which means that a host of more serious problems can develop: blackheads, whiteheads, enlarged pores, redness, and potential scarring.

Oily skins mean having more oil production and less moisture. It is important to comprehend this, as most people thing wrongly that by having oily skin there is no room for moisturizers. Usually people will use soap-based cleansers to clean their skin leaving their skin dry and dehydrated. To really replenish the lost moisture, moisturizers are to be used frequently. By doing so, you will give your skin a more healthy and radiant complexion. Remember oily skin doesn't necessarily mean you have you an excess of moisture, it just means it is oily and you need to find a middle ground.

Ironically, oily skin can also be sensitive and washing with harsh cleansers often causes irritation and inflammations. Begin by washing with lukewarm water, a mild cleanser, and then rinse off with cool water. If you can do away with makeup, non oil-based cosmetics lessen the incidence of breakouts and other blemishes.

A golden rule especially in oily skin care: never sleep with you makeup on and save the cold creams for your dry-skinned friend. Another solution to a problem is the frequent washing of the face. This is done to prevent the build-up of oil on the skin which in turn will prevent the occurrence of acne. Basic hygiene is the single best solution to acne problems in oily skin.

The excess oil released by overactive oil glands onto the skin must be removed regularly or the pores will get clogged and acne will develop.

Therefore, people with oily skin are advised to cleanse their face twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Some might think the more often they cleanse, the less likely their pores will get clogged and as a result, less acne and a better skin.

Oil is important for moisturizing the skin, and you can take comfort from knowing that oily skin delays wrinkling, age spots, and fine lines, and sebaceous glands become less active as we age.

In the meantime, the problem remains that oil clogs the pores of the skin, and the effects are, naturally, the production of blackheads and pimples, as well as enlarged pores and redness. Oily skin care treatments involve taking steps to keep pores from getting clogged and blemishes from appearing.
