Infection with HPV (human papilloma virus) usually does not cause any genital warts symptoms. It may not even cause genital warts to appear visible. Some types of HPV can cause changes in the genitals cells in the cervix that would show up as an abnormal Pap test. When genital Warts symptoms do show up, they usually won't develop for 2 to 3 months after exposure, but they can occur within 3 weeks to many years after exposure to the infection.
