In this article we will go over what genital warts are, their symptoms, causes, traditional medical treatments, and possible warts genital home treatment options.

To answer the question of what genital warts are; they are simply warts that form on and/or around the anus, vagina, or penis of a person who has contracted one of the various forms of hpv (human papilloma virus).
The cause of genital warts, hpv, is a highly contagious sexually transmitted disease that has become all to common for both men and women.

The disease is mainly seen in sexually active adults ages seventeen to thirty-three. It is usually contracted from skin to skin contact during oral sex, anal sex, traditional intercourse, and even from contact with unclean skin that have had contact with infected areas. Using condoms does greatly reduce your chances of contracting the virus; but do to the ease that it is spread does not eliminate all risk. It is also important to note that the virus can be carried for great lengths of time, even years, without symptoms.

The symptoms for genital warts include: burning/itching sensations in the genital area, pain during urination, pain during intercourse, and lesions on or around the genitals of the infected person. These lesions can be seen as individual warts that are sometimes flat and in other cases they often grow in clusters raised off the skin that resemble cauliflower.

Sometimes the warts can move up into the cervix of infected women. Some of these strains have been shown to increase the chances of cervical cancer by as much as seventy percent. If you are a woman and are diagnosed to with genital warts it is recommended that you have a pap smear every six months. If the warts spread to the cervix it is recommended that you have a pap smear every three months because of the increased risk of cancer as mentioned above.

There are prescription treatments available in the form of oral medications and topical creams that can be obtained from a physician. Both methods have been proven effective in treating and suppressing genital warts. Some work faster than others, but this option is often too expensive for many of the unfortunate people who find themselves infected with the virus.

Warts genital home treatment is often not recommended because many of the methods are anecdotal and may cause damage to the sensitive tissues in the genital area. Some of these methods include the use of duct tape, onion slices, strange oils, garlic, and other ridiculous items.
Some recommend modifying ones diets and are generally harmless, but also unproven.

Although many of the warts genital home treatment options seem unfounded there is hope in these non-medicinal methods including:

Cryotherapy: the use of liquid nitrogen to freeze and remove genital warts is safe for use during pregnancy. It has been shown to kill the warts about seventy to eighty percent of the time, but recurrence sometimes occurs about forty to seventy percent of the time six months after treatment.

Laser ablation: the use of lasers to remove genital warts. This methods is very costly and is generally used as a last resort.

Electrocautery: the use of electrical current to remove the warts.

Surgical excision: the warts are cut from the body with traditional surgery. This method has a greater risk of scarring and is seen as the best way to remove large warts.

There is one home treatment option that has been having promising results, homeopathic. Homeopathic treatments are generally taken orally underneath the tongue to increase absorption. They work by triggering an increase in the body's own defense mechanisms through the use of natural ingredients. These methods are particularly interesting because they allow the patient to avoid traditional chemical based medications which may have unknown side effects as well as potentially painful surgical options. Just be sure to do a little research when choosing a home treatment as there are many that do not work and are scams.
