Wine is an alcoholic beverage produced by fermenting crushed grapes using variety of yeasts depending on what kind of wine is needed to be produced. Yeast converts the sugar found in grapes and convert them into alcohol.

There are other fruit varieties that can be fermented such as apples and berries they are known as fruit or country wine. There also others that are made from starch based materials and almost resemble beer such as barley wine and rice wine.

There are other variety of wines from the European species of Vitis vinifera. This includes Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. These wines are often referred to as varietal.

What is the essence of drinking wine? Primarily wine has been an important beverage which accompanies a wide range of European and Mediterranean cuisines regardless of its class. More than being a beverage, wines is a flavor agent which brings rich taste to some dishes.

Among the wines available red wine, white wine and sparkling wines are very much popular for they contain very little alcohol, even just little as 10% per volume. There are also some practices that are necessary to consume this beverage at its utmost quality. Some wine labels have written recommendation of letting the wine breathe which meant opening the wine bottle hours before it needs to be consumed. It is said to eliminate that bitter sediment that have formed.

We have always been advised to stay away from alcohol consumption due to the health hazards it may bring. But research shows that wine consumed in moderation could eventually decrease the rate people dying from cardio related diseases such as heart attack or seizure.

Some studies also suggest that red wine brings out more benefits than the white ones. It is believed to be because of the amount of polyphenols present in red wine and such substance is said to enable protection from cardiovascular related diseases.

Although there have been laboratory studies made on wines which have led to the conclusion that it could protect the cardiovascular health, they were not able to end up in a controlled studies that would distinguish the effects of alcohol drinks with limiting the development of heart ailments.

There are studies that are being made on the wine's effect on the brain. And it was concluded that one wine which Cabernet Sauvignon could reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease.

Remember that the benefits mentioned above were due to the fact that those people have consumed wine in simple moderation which is actually defined as having one or two glasses of wine in a day. And it would not count if you skip drinking for a week to maximize it over the weekend.

There are studies that have concluded too much wine could also lead to adverse effects rather than preventing diseases. So sip in and enjoy those healthy volume of wine and even make those delectable dishes spring out their flavor.
