Agoraphobia is the fear of a crowd with no escape route in sight. Someone who deals with agoraphobia is likely to have a panic attack when they are stuck in a crowd. They would suddenly feel dizzy, their heart would race and could feel like they might pass out on the spot.

A fear that someone with agoraphobia experiences is the fear of having a panic attack while surrounded by crowds. This kind of anxiety can end up causing a person to isolate in their comfort zone. Obviously, this kind of isolation has a very bad impact on their ability to socialize.

Agoraphobia is typically diagnosed by a psychologist or psychiatrist. They will ask for details on any agoraphobic symptoms you have had in the past. Then they will ask how severe they were and what caused them to trigger.

A mental health practitioner will also need to know if you have other mental conditions such as depression or an anxiety disorder. If you have a problem abusing alcohol or drugs then this finding will be important to your doctor.

Agoraphobia is caused by the same things as many other phobias and panic attacks. Past experiences are usually a root cause of agoraphobia. If you had a traumatic event in the past it can lead to this type of disorder.

An unexpected panic attack is a common cause for developing agoraphobia. After someone has their first panic attack then they are so afraid of having another it can cause a cycle to develop.

There are plenty of medications available to help with panic attacks and agoraphobia. The drawback to them are that you are not solving the underlying problems and dealing with the side effects of the medicine.

You can deal with the root cause of your agoraphobia or panic attacks by regularly meeting with a psychologist and using holistic remedies. Relaxation techniques are beneficial, as well. You can learn all about relaxation techniques by searching the internet for it. The best way to go about beating agoraphobia and panic attacks is by following a treatment plan that was made specifically for you.

St. John's Wort, scullcap, valerian and passiflora incarnata are all herbs that can help you to calm down. These herbs do not have any side effects like conventional medicine. Do not try to just use these herbs and hope for them to work on their own. Make sure that you get a treatment plan from your psychologist or psychiactrist, as well.
