The irritating little black dots that appear on our skin are clogged pores, or blackheads. They most often appear on the back, nose, ears and cheeks.

Just about any area of the body is prone to getting blackheads, if the skin is oily. The reason they are black is that the part of them that is open to the air oxidizes.

Blackheads form when the sebaceous gland is over active. Typically the sebaceous gland produces healthy oils but in the case of blackheads the oil and dead skin cells become hardened and end up clogging the pore.

During puberty the sebaceous glands are more active and produce extra oil. This does not always stop at the end of puberty so many adults continue to suffer from blackheads. Acne is the result of the oil gland becoming infected.

It is easy to control blackheads if you take care of your skin. Health problems like an under active thyroid, constipation and indigestion can also cause blackheads to form.

Sticking with natural products is probably the best way to treat your skin, the right way. Stay away from the harsh chemicals that are found in many commercial lotions and soaps. Tea tree oil is great for the skin. It has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-septic properties that are good for the skin and will not dry it out.

Articum lappa is also a good quality natural remedy for the skin. It is often used to treat acne, psoriasis, eczema and even canker sores. Roobios (aspalathus linearis) is great if you are looking for a tonic to heal and soothe the skin.

Vulbine frutescence will work to fight off infections in the skin and also has healing properties. Aloe ferox and hamamelis virginia-num are widely used to keep the skin healthy and moisturized.

Aside from using natural products on your skin, there are several other things you can do. One of the most important things that can be done is to get regular facials. If you cannot afford to have this professionally done then you can also do it at home. Again, stick with natural products.

If you have really oily skin then it is a good idea to keep some tissues with you and regularly blot the most oily spots, during the day. Be sure to avoid some of the quick fix scams that circle the media.

Sticking with high quality natural products will give you much better results than most of the harsh commercial products that are available.
