Thanks to media, people have become keenly aware of the importance of being fit and healthy. Through media campaigns, the concept of a healthy lifestyle has become widely known. Major television shows like Oprah have even made celebrities out of health and fitness experts. There are even syndicated shows that are devoted to health matters shown all over America.

This is certainly a welcome development as it has made people more conscious about their need to make changes for a healthier and happier life. However, there is also a downside to this phenomenon. In their desire to become fit and healthy, some people have become slaves to certain unhealthy weight loss methods and their numbers are increasing.

Unfortunately, not all weight loss programs are beneficial. In our opinion, it is better to go for weight loss alternatives rather than use products which are ineffective or worse, contain harmful ingredients.

In this light, doesn't it make more sense to use a more natural weight loss method than a diet product? A weight loss program that is safe and effective is one that is not simply limited to getting rid of unwanted weight but should also promote health and wellness. It must involve the use of a high-fiber diet plan.

A high-fiber diet offers many health benefits. It lowers both blood cholesterol and blood sugar levels because it diminishes food cravings. Fiber also expands in the stomach thereby creating a feeling of fullness in effect curbing the appetite. A high-fiber diet also supports digestive health because it facilitates regular bowel movement and cleanses the colon reducing the incidence of constipation and stomach trouble.

In her book "Essential Cleansing for Perfect Health", digestive expert and colon therapist Brenda Watson writes about what she calls "autointoxication" or the state of being poisoned by the toxic substances that have built-up within the body. Watson explains that problematic digestion causes harmful microbes in the digestive tract to feed on undigested food. She further explains that because of faulty elimination, toxins from the intestinal tract seep into the circulatory system resulting in many health problems.

There are many artificial ways to cleanse the colon but these are not advisable as they might interfere with the body's regular functioning. The safest alternative is to follow a high-fiber diet because it provides a way to naturally cleanse and detoxify which in turn translates to better health and wellness, and yes, weight loss.
