So many people suffer from headaches on a daily basis. For the most part, these are simple stress headaches caused by everything from economical worries to children screaming. Some people suffer from headaches that are the result of a sinus infection or a migraine.

For most people, headache pain can be alleviated with the use of over the counter pain medication or perhaps with prescription medication. However, not everyone feels comfortable using drugs to take care of the pain.

At home tricks to try for headaches

For most headaches, including a slight migraine, often the best way to treat them is to take a nap. Choose somewhere that is both quiet and dark, relax, and go to sleep. Try to get at least 30 minutes to an hour for the maximum benefit. Being able to relax during a nap provides the body and the brain a chance to relax and be cleared of stress. While this method doesn't always work, it is an excellent place to start.

If a fully-fledged nap is not something that you are able to do, it may be helpful to just sit back, relax, and close your eyes. This may or may not have the desired effect long term, but it could help as a temporary fix to headache pain. If this temporary solution is what you need to try due to work or other constraints, try to choose a place that is as dark and quiet as possible.

Natural remedies for headaches

If you find that a nap isn't taking care of your headache, you might want to try some natural at-home remedies. A very good way to relieve headache pain is to add the juice of lemon wedges to a cup of tea; in general, the juice of three or four wedges will be needed. After drinking this mixture, relief should be relatively immediate for minor headaches.

Another good natural, at-home remedy to try is aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is basically scenting the immediate area or room that you are in with specific scents, each having its own issue that it is said to alleviate.

For headaches, the best scents to use are said to be peppermint, eucalyptus, and lavender. There are several ways to incorporate aromatherapy into your daily routine to help with headaches. Essential oils, soaps, and candles are all ways that you can use the aromatherapy to ease your headache pain.

When at-home headache remedies don't work

If at-home and natural remedies don't work for you, you may be tempted to seek out drug therapy for your pain. If this is the case, you can make an appointment with your physician, who will no doubt be able to help you with a prescription medication. However, if you still prefer to treat your pain without using drugs, you may want to make an appointment with a chiropractor.

A chiropractor is a medical professional that is specially trained in the spinal column. Often times, even for tough, persistent headaches, an alignment may be all that is needed.
