Men and women were created to be different. Aside from the obvious there are interesting details from psychology and medical science that continue to be discovered. For instance, there is the theory that women are more likely to get fat and obese to a larger extent than men. There are also the findings from a recent study which not only supports the theory but also says that it was all the more so if women would continue to give in whenever they felt depressed even if they are not even overweight at the time.

One of the reasons why women are prone to weight gain than men is because they tend to follow weight loss fads more than men. This practice, particularly for older women, is one major cause of weight gain. Switching from one diet to another puts a lot of stress on the body’s metabolic process thereby causing it to slow down. In this condition it is not able to burn calories efficiently and the result is weight gain. As it is, the older we get, the slower our metabolism becomes in general. Thus for women, it is double jeopardy, so to speak.

To further complicate the matter, there is the pressure that comes from trying to meet society’s expectation that a woman’s body should be physically appealing. In trying to meet this expectation, many women strive to achieve the perfect body by going from one fad diet to another in order to lose weight. What they fail to recognize is that this practice puts their health at great risk.

Results of a recent study on women’s weight loss pursuits conducted in California were published in a medical newsletter. The report stated that women who do not control their food cravings are bound to become excessively overweight or obese regardless of whether or not they are in the normal range of body weight and measurement.

This new research stresses anew that women who do not control their eating more than double their risk of gaining a substantial amount of weight when they reach middle age. If you are in your 40’s, it is best to start taking control of your eating habits. Cut down on foods that give you useless calories. Now is the time to make those healthy food choices. Also, begin an exercise program to increase your metabolism. Do not let your gender or your age work against you. What you do today will make all the difference.
