You have most likely seen or heard Oprah bringing up her weight gain again. So if one of the most successful and wealthiest women in the world, who has personal trainers, private coaches, her own chefs, chauffeurs and even her friend Dr OZ and with all that she cannot maintain her weight. Does that mean I am doomed also?
Maybe. That is if you continue to think like she does. The comforting thing to know is that you don't have to have all those resources for your weight loss.
So what is she thinking about that would cause the weight gain? She said that "I use food for the same reasons an addict uses drugs: to comfort, to soothe, to ease stress."
Food is her tool to comfort, sooth and ease stress. Your body, like hers, is simply the result of how and what you eat and how you exercise it.
So what if you change the way you think about food and believe about yourself? Your belief about yourself is what helps you see yourself as either fat and overweight or thin and slim. If you change the belief then you begin to have the results that you desire. In this case permanent weight loss.
It all starts with your thoughts. Thoughts, lead to emotions, and feeling. The feelings are like adding fuel to the fire. This in turn will then lead to a behavior or action. That behavior is the action that we decide to take. And after we are done with that action, we will have a new feeling that ideally will leave us feeling better.
Our belief system is simply the bundling of a group of thoughts around a specific topic.
Let's use Oprah as an example. The thought of stress or frustration enters her mind. She quickly decides if she wants to accept or reject the thought. She accepts it. As she then ponders the thought, it draws from her library of other stressful times in her life. Yes, it feels like stress, yes I notice my blood pressure increasing so it's time to act. Give me something to eat, something that will make me feel better. After taking a bite or two and the new feeling of ahhhhhh. Except the food is now gone, the stress is momentarily removed or not noticed. But what is typically noticed is that my pants and shirt are tight. Argggg. What can I eat to make me feel better.
So in the New Year, if you want to have a New You, then you will need to change the way you think about yourself.
