One of the most common yeast infections happens in women and occurs in the vaginal area. Vaginal yeast infection is caused by the fungi Candida albicans, which can thrive in the damp and dark areas of the body. In fact, many women have this certain type of fungi in their skin and may only be waiting for the immune system to weaken for infection to appear.

You can however do something to prevent these fungi to cause infection in your body. It may be difficult to be totally free of these fungi if they are already existing in your body, but here are some tips and ways in preventing yeast infection and avoid the invasion of new ones as well.

- Wear an all-cotton underwear that is breathable and allows air circulation in the vaginal area. The fungi Candida that causes infection thrives well in damp and dark areas, thus to prevent them from thriving, you have to keep the area dry.

- Don't wear your wet bathing suit for prolonged periods. For sure, it will create a good environment for yeast to thrive in the vaginal area. Make sure also that you have dried your underwear thoroughly after washing them.

- Don't wear tight clothing especially tight jeans or panty hose, or anything made of synthetic materials that will trap moisture in the vaginal area.

- Avoid perfumed soaps and products especially if it's causing you irritation. Perfumes and scents in soaps and other bath products can cause often irritate sensitive skin and may lead to irritation and create a yeast-friendly environment. Especially if you have recurring Candida infection, it may help a lot if you have to choose unscented or mild soaps.

- Do not douche. Vaginal douches may lead to an imbalance of good and bacteria present in the vagina and may lessen the ability of your body to fight infections including infections brought about by the fungi Candida.

- Supplement your diet with yoghurt. Yoghurt has live bacteria that helps balance the good and bad bacteria in your body and strengthening you immunity against common infections including ones caused by yeast.

- Wear unscented sanitary pads and tampons. Avoiding anything with scent or perfume is one good way in preventing yeast infections and other irritation.

- Cut down on sugar intake. Watching your diet is one good way in preventing yeast infection. Switch to a healthy diet and cut down on sugar as high sugar levels in the body can lead you to be diabetic that also increase your risk of Candida infection.

- Talk to your doctor if your antibiotic is increasing your risk of yeast invasion. Antibiotics can disturb the normal balance of bacteria in your body that may provide the yeast a good opportunity to cause infection.

Finding ways in preventing yeast infection can indeed save you from a lot of troubles. This kind of infection can recur and a recurring infection may be difficult to get rid of. Start with these tips now to help yourself avoid the annoying symptoms of this problem and stay yeast-free as well.
